Imagine Tomorrow What will the world look like in 50 years? 1,000 years? No matter what we may predict we know one thing for sure, life – and art – will be different. The Huntsville Museum of Art is excited to announce a new juried exhibition of artwork, Imagine Tomorrow, which looks ahead toward the mystery of tomorrow. Imagine Tomorrow features selections from children, university students, art teachers/professors and professional artists – all residents of the Huntsville/Madison community. The exhibition provides an opportunity for people of all ages and walks of life to participate in the visual arts with their unique view of the future. Artwork will be juried by an esteemed panel of judges which includes Huntsville Mayor, Tommy Battle; Madison Mayor, Paul Finley; Executive Director of the Huntsville Arts Council, Allison Dillon-Jauken; Dean of UA Huntsville College of Liberal Arts, Glenn Dasher; Alabama A&M Associate Professor Joe Washington; and Huntsville Museum of Art CEO, Clayton Bass. Imagine Tomorrow is a collaboration with Huntsville Art League, Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment, UA Huntsville, Alabama A&M and The Arts Council. In Praise of America: Highlights from Art by American Women - The Sellars Collection Selected from the Museum’s recent landmark acquisition of nearly 400 19th and 20th century works of art by American women, this exhibition presents accomplished landscapes, portraits and genre scenes that celebrate the dramatic scenery, diverse people, and distinctive spirit of our great nation. In Praise of America features approximately 40 paintings, sculptures and works on paper, and includes engaging florals, still-lifes, portraits, genre scenes, and landscapes reflecting different regions of the United States. In Praise of America showcases a perennially popular style and subject that is sure to be a great crowd pleaser.

Encounters: Kathy Chan Encounters, the Museum’s long-standing showcase for outstanding regional contemporary art will feature the multi-faceted work of this distinctive Huntsville artist. The exhibition will emphasize Chan’s exquisite jewelry, comprised of precious metals, gemstones and pearls, and include examples of her painting and couture apparel. SEPTEMBER Vignettes The annual garden party event, Vignettes, hosted by the Museum Foundation Board has been moved to the early fall! Vignettes will be on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the beautiful home of Jean Templeton on historic Adams Street in downtown Huntsville. The event will feature ten works each by five talented artists from around the South. Guests will have a unique opportunity to purchase these works of art, while enjoying live music and savoring sumptuous food and drink in a stunning garden setting. A portion of the proceeds will be used to sponsor student scholarships to the Museum’s Art Academy. Artists: Creative Ways with Colored Clays Thursday September 9 – 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Learn about a variety of clays to create proper form, proportion, shape and balance of functional pots. This workshop is for the intermediate to advanced student. Explore the use of engobes and slips as well as other finishing techniques. Wheel throwing techniques will be utilized. Demos, a slide presentation, and critiques included. Guadalupe Lanning Robinson – “A great fascination with different colored clays and the textures that can be produced with stoneware has led me to experiment with and study clays for the past thirty years . . .
