Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) is excited to announce an upcoming event with noted author and artist, William Dunlap, who will be speaking at the Museum on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Dunlap has distinguished himself as an artist, arts commentator and educator, during a career that has spanned more than three decades. He has an M.F.A. from the University of Mississippi, and has taught at Appalachian State University in North Carolina (1970-79) and Memphis State University (1979-80). He currently maintains studios in McLean, Virginia; Mathiston, Mississippi and Coral Gables, Florida.

“One of the nicest things about the American South and my Hypothetical Realism is that there’s far less explaining to do for the home folks,” remarked Dunlap. “Reading the Huntsville Museum of Art’s newsletter, ArtViews, makes me want to get to the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains all the sooner. I am flattered to be a part of so comprehensive a program.”

Dunlap will be signing his recent bestseller, Short Mean Fiction. “Like tales from the Old Testament, these stories are mean, rampant with sex, violence, and death.” William Dunlap’s debut collection of stories, words, and pictures makes a strong case for Hypothetical Realism in his art. The artist will speak about his role to “create something out of nothing” and read excerpts from his book.

The evening with William Dunlap will begin with the Artist Talk from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and will be followed with a book signing and reception. Tickets are available now at hsvmuseum.org and seating is limited. Tickets for Museum members are $20 and tickets for non-members are $40.
