DESCRIPTION:Landscape Painting: Earth\, Water and Sky (& More)\nSkill Level: Intermediate to Advanced \nThursday\, May 19 – Sunday\, May 22 | 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \nMembers: $725 | Non-Members: $775 \nRegister for workshop here!\n\n\nDavid Dunlop\, Wild Gardens\, Wildflowers\, Wildflowers in Atmosphere\, Riverbank\, 2021\, oil on dibond \nDavid Dunlop is a modern-day old master whose luminous paintings draw from both Renaissance techniques and contemporary science. His paintings have been shown internationally and are held in the collections of major corporations including Aetna Insurance\, Citibank\, Delta Airlines\, Dunn & Bradstreet\, GE Capital Corporation\, IBM\, Mobil\, PepsiCo\, SNET\, and many more. \nRespected teacher\, lecturer and juror well versed in all mediums including: watercolor\, oil\, acrylic\, pastel and encaustic. Dunlop is the engaging host and writer of the 13-show national PBS television series\, “Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop\,” for which he won an Emmy and a CINE Golden Eagle Award in 2009. He was the recipient of the 2017 Living Art Award from Silvermine Arts Center in CT\, where he has taught for many years. Visit daviddunlop.com. \nEach day begins with demonstrations and followed by Dunlop working individually with each artist. These personal instructor visits allow each artist to expand their skills and enjoyably realize their own ambitions in a relaxed\, friendly\, and comfortable way. The workshop will have a daily combination of lecture/slides\, demo\, in acrylic\, oil and watercolor and student painting. \nThe following subjects will be covered: Day 1. Broad Panoramic Landscapes with Big Skies. Learn how artists used elevated perspectives to create a feeling of infinite space under infinite skies. Create unfolding landscapes\, rolling over fields\, lakes and forests and distant cities. We see how artists employed varieties of perspective. We take you across time and cultures to show you how artists worked. Learn how past masters created textures and patterns that evoked a feeling of depth and realism. See how this subject has changed through modern and contemporary artists. The demonstrations include use of oil and acrylics. Day 2. Water. We learn to paint the illusions of translucence from clear pools to tumbling streams\, to paint persuasive reflections\, and cascading falls and their misty effects. Learn to paint water as a vibrating mirror to nature. See how contemporary artists (whether realist or abstract) respond when the subject includes water. Dunlop will demonstrate with a variety of media including oils\, water media and mixed media. Day 3. Intimate Landscapes; Nature up Close. Novel points of view can be found by looking closely at nature. When we see from the viewpoint of a frog or insect we improve our visual skills\, broaden our menu of visual subjects and our perspectives. See how the feeling of dense and infinite flora can be created through illusions of texturing. Learn how to spellbind the viewer with a closer look at the natural world and its mysterious variety. Demonstrations will be provided using oils\, water media and mixed media. Day 4. The Other Landscape\, the Cityscape. See how to express the mood\, energy and complexity of city life from the bright lights\, to the passersby\, to glass reflections\, to flash of traffic to the textures of the street and the changing perspectives of the architecture. Here we look for varieties in the visual patterns and learn to evoke those patterns. Explore the Museum’s latest exhibitions or visit favorites from the Museum collection during this after-hours event. Wine service has returned. Guests aged 21+ will be able to purchase a glass of wine from the Church Street Wine Shoppe for $7. Tonight’s menu highlights new vintages from local winery Cotes de Femme. At 6 p.m.\, Sangeetha Ekambaram and Matthew Newell will perform an exciting and beautiful program from famous operas such as La Traviata (Verdi) and La Boheme (Puccini) in addition to some musical theater hits from Phantom of the Opera\, Oklahoma and My Fair Lady. \nAbout Sangeetha Ekambaram: \nSoprano most recently performed Chrysothemis in “A Look at Elektra” (sponsored by the New York Chamber Music Festival)\, in the “Evolution of Ingenue” at the Metropolitan Opera Guild\, Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief) with Opera Huntsville\, and in the opening gala concert at the Amadeo Bassi Festival. She was one of ten singers selected for the final reveal concert in NYIOP’s Anonymous Audition Project. Other roles include Mimì (La Bohème) (Festival di Ostra)\, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte)\, Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann)\, Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor)\, 1st French Woman in the world premiere of Eleanor and the 1st Calaveras in Frida (The Society for New Music). For her performance on Pamina\, the CVNC Arts Journal wrote: “Soprano Sangeetha Ekambaram lacked nothing in vocal power or beauty of line in the role of Pamina. Her voice was beautifully supported across its range and she conveyed the emotional range superbly.” \nShe equally enjoys performing in creative productions and collaborations\, such as the role of Cinderella in Martin Warren’s The True Story of Cinderella (Opera Huntsville) and in concert with renown flamenco singer Chayito Champion in an evening of Spanish classical repertoire. In concert\, collaborators include artists such as Craig Ketter\, Jennifer McGuire\, and Anthony Gian di Tomasso. She is currently a Resident Artist with Sparrow Live\, an online streaming platform. She appears on a CD in duets by Heinrich Marschner (Centaur Records) with baritone Jeffrey Williams and pianist/conductor Jennifer McGuire\, which was released in January 2021. \nAbout Matthew Newell: \nA native of Crestview\, Florida\, Matthew has recently returned to Huntsville\, Alabama with his wife\, after living in Stuttgart\, Germany for the past 3 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Stetson University in 2007 and a Master’s degree in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2013 and was inducted into Delta Mu Delta\, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. \nMatthew was an elementary school music teacher for three years in Pensacola\, Florida. He has served as Music Director and Music Chairman for the Athens Ward\, Madison Stake\, and Stuttgart Germany International Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has performed with the Pensacola Opera company\, Opera Huntsville\, the Huntsville Community Chorus Association\, the Huntsville Christmas Festival Choir\, and the Huntsville Patriotic Choir featuring the Army Materiel Command Band.
