SUMMARY:Master Artist Workshop with Qiang Huang
DESCRIPTION:Painting the Figure in the Landscape\nSkill Level: All \nThursday\, August 17 – Sunday\, August 20\, 2023\, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. \nMembers: $600 | Non-Members: $650 \nRegister for workshop here! \n\n\nQiang Huang\, Roping\, 2022\, oil on canvas \n\nWith this workshop\, Qiang will introduce his approaches of adding figures into landscape paintings in oil. In general\, painting the figure is much harder than other subject matter. Painters need to have adequate amount of training in anatomy\, proportion\, perspective\, and skin tones to be able manage subtle variations in human forms. However\, in landscapes\, figures are suggested rather than literally painted. The workshop will emphasize on how to get the correct proportion of human forms into a landscape environment. He will introduce visual tools to make figure painting much easier. Qiang will also demonstrate his general strategies of landscape painting. The students will create storytelling paintings in an expressive style. Reference photographs will be used during the workshop. Qiang Huang (pronounced as Chong Wong) was born and raised in Beijing\, China and now lives in Austin\, Texas. He has studied art from multiple master artists like David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw. His paintings show remarkable accuracy and expressive brush strokes. Since 2004 his paintings have been selected continuously for the 14th\, 15th\, 16th and 18th Oil Painters of America’s National Juried Exhibitions. American Artist Magazine has featured his teaching on the summer issue of the Workshop. For more information\, visit qhart.com.

SUMMARY:Member Preview Day of Rania Matar: SHE
DESCRIPTION:Member Preview Day\nRania Matar: SHE\nFriday\, August 18 | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.\nMuseum Members Only\nThe Huntsville Museum of Art invites our Museum Members to attend an exclusive\, Members-only preview of our newest exhibition\, Rania Matar: SHE\, the day before it opens to the public. Docents will be leading two tours of this exhibition for our Members. Take a deep dive during your preview day by attending a tour at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. \nBorn and raised in Lebanon\, Rania Matar moved to the United States in 1984. She has dedicated her work to exploring issues of personal and collective identity through photographs of female adolescence and adulthood. Matar works both in the United States and the Middle East in an effort to focus on notions of identity and individuality within the context of the underlying universality of these experiences. \nSHE features 50 large-scale color images of young women in their 20s—the ages of Matar’s own daughters—leaving the cocoon of home and transitioning into womanhood. In earlier projects\, Matar photographed young women in relation to the controlled environment of their bedrooms. Here\, she captures them in the larger arena they find themselves in after leaving home—the global and complicated backdrop that now constitutes their lives in transition. Organized by The Museum Box LLC\, Boston\, MA.
