SUMMARY:Master Artist Workshop with David Shevlino
DESCRIPTION:Alla Prima Portrait Painting\nSkill Level: Intermediate to Advanced \nThursday\, October 19 – Sunday\, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. \nMembers: $700 | Non-Members: $750 \nRegister for workshop here! \n\n\nPhoto Courtesy of Artist: David Shevlino\, Candace\, oil on canvas © 2022 \nThis workshop is about painting the portrait alla prima (wet-into-wet) and the techniques used to create a fresh\, direct response to our subjects. There will be a painting demonstration and lots of class time for students to work from a live portrait models. Students will work on a different painting/pose each day of the workshop. Rather than focusing on details\, students will learn to simplify and interpret the head and face as a series of basic shapes and planes described by light and shadow. Shevlino will spend time discussing basic proportions and how to recognize the planes of the head and how to simplify them. He also talk about basic concepts like value\, color and paint application. This workshop will be particularly helpful for those who want to expand from a tight painting style\, to a more loose\, economical paint application. \nDavid Shevlino studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (certificate ’84) and the University of Pennsylvania (BFA ’92). His work has been featured in national publications and he has exhibited his work and taught workshops throughout the U.S. He has also produced a series of videos and DVDs about his artwork and painting methods. Visit davidshevlino.com. \nShevlino – “My exposure to art began as a teenager growing up in NJ near NYC. I began making trips to art museums in NYC when I was 15 and developed a love of traditional figurative painting. As a youth I found myself especially drawn to the old masters. Those early trips to the museum instilled in me a love of craft and a sense of where painting comes from. For most of my artistic career I’ve tried to take what I’ve learned about traditional painting and mold it into something I can call my own\, which presently means exploring the place between traditional figurative painting and abstraction.” \nClick Here for the Supply List. Click here for registration policy.
