DESCRIPTION:Beauty\, Passion & Bliss Art Demonstration with Jessica Patmon Johnson\nThursday\, April 21 | 6 – 7 p.m.\nMembers: Free | Non-Members: Included with $5 After 5 admission\n\nIn conjunction with the Beauty\, Passion and Bliss: 19th Century Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art exhibition\, Huntsville artist Jessica Patmon Johnson will give an oil painting demonstration during $5 After 5 on April 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. Viewing the demonstration is free for Museum members or included with admission for Non-Members. \nAbout Jessica Patmon Johnson: \nWife\, Mother\, Artist\, Educator and Athlete. Jessica has a three-year-old who helps her see the world anew. She is married to an artist\, who is also a high school art educator. She is an active member of the art community and has had her work exhibited around the South. She is a member of the Rocket City Roller Derby team\, Huntsville’s Flat Track Roller Derby Team. Regarding teaching\, she has been an educator with Huntsville City Schools since 2011. She has taught the following courses over the years: Art I\, Drawing I/II\, Photo I/II\, Painting I/II\, AP Studio Art 2-D design\, AP Drawing\, Ceramic I/II\, Magnet II and Magnet IV. She currently teaches Ceramic I and Ceramic II and has been doing so for a few years now. During her undergraduate and graduate degree at UAB\, she completed a concentration in Ceramics\, Painting and Photography. She loves art and sharing the knowledge she has acquired over the years. Advocating for the arts and helping other grow their appreciation for the art is a life-long passion of Jessica’s. She currently the program director of the Visual Art Magnet at Lee High School. \nJessica Patmon was raised in Clay\, Alabama. She received her Bachelors in Studio Arts with a concentration in painting\, photography and ceramics with a Minor in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009. She later earned her Master’s in Art Education from UAB. Jessica’s work has been featured in the following exhibitions: 37th Annual Bi State Exhibition in Mississippi\, Alumni Show at the University of Alabama at Birmingham\, and the Juried Art Teacher Biennial at the Huntsville Museum of Art. \n“My work illustrates the disentanglement of personal and social struggles dealing with standards of female identity in the South. My work narrates both the objective and perceived reality of my childhood memories that have since been reinterpreted. The recognition of human behavior and interaction\, combined with specific imagery\, evoke a sense of personal identity and authenticity within my art.”

Tonight’s menu will highlight SkyFall Vineyards. Is the sky falling? No\, it’s just April showers bringing in May flowers! \nAbout Gabe Larose:\nGabe Larose blends various styles such as 70’s rock\, fingerstyle ballads\, acoustic folk\, and even classical guitar into his latest album “Rule of Thirds”. Influences like The Beatles\, Led Zeppelin\, Kansas\, Neil Young\, Jim Croce\, The Police\, and 90’s Seattle are all apparent on this album\, but intertwined to be recognized on a more subconscious level. His second album “Through the Motions” (2014) can also be found on Spotify. When he is not playing live in the North AL area\, Gabe also works as a guitar instructor. \nAbout Phil Weaver:\nClassical guitarist Phil Weaver has been performing for over 30 years in the United States and abroad. He was the first guitarist to be awarded an individual artist’s fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts\, and he is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at UAH\, where he directs the guitar program. He performed his European debut with solo concerts for the Nonsuch Guitar Society in London and the Old Malthouse Music Society in Sawbridgeworth. In addition to solo work\, he has performed concertos with orchestra and small ensembles including instrumentalists and vocalists. His collaborations with pianist Ingrid von Spakovsky include a CD on ACA Digital that received rave reviews in Fanfare and 20th Century Guitar magazines\, interviews on BBC York and Temple Public Radio\, a tour of England\, a New York City recital debut\, and performances throughout the U.S. Their CD Consonare has been broadcasted on New York City’s NPR affiliate WNYC\, WABE Atlanta\, and WLRH Huntsville.

At 6 p.m.\, Sangeetha Ekambaram and Matthew Newell will perform an exciting and beautiful program from famous operas such as La Traviata (Verdi) and La Boheme (Puccini) in addition to some musical theater hits from Phantom of the Opera\, Oklahoma and My Fair Lady. \nAbout Sangeetha Ekambaram: \nSoprano most recently performed Chrysothemis in “A Look at Elektra” (sponsored by the New York Chamber Music Festival)\, in the “Evolution of Ingenue” at the Metropolitan Opera Guild\, Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief) with Opera Huntsville\, and in the opening gala concert at the Amadeo Bassi Festival. She was one of ten singers selected for the final reveal concert in NYIOP’s Anonymous Audition Project. Other roles include Mimì (La Bohème) (Festival di Ostra)\, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte)\, Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann)\, Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor)\, 1st French Woman in the world premiere of Eleanor and the 1st Calaveras in Frida (The Society for New Music). For her performance on Pamina\, the CVNC Arts Journal wrote: “Soprano Sangeetha Ekambaram lacked nothing in vocal power or beauty of line in the role of Pamina. Her voice was beautifully supported across its range and she conveyed the emotional range superbly.” \nShe equally enjoys performing in creative productions and collaborations\, such as the role of Cinderella in Martin Warren’s The True Story of Cinderella (Opera Huntsville) and in concert with renown flamenco singer Chayito Champion in an evening of Spanish classical repertoire. In concert\, collaborators include artists such as Craig Ketter\, Jennifer McGuire\, and Anthony Gian di Tomasso. She is currently a Resident Artist with Sparrow Live\, an online streaming platform. She appears on a CD in duets by Heinrich Marschner (Centaur Records) with baritone Jeffrey Williams and pianist/conductor Jennifer McGuire\, which was released in January 2021. \nAbout Matthew Newell: \nA native of Crestview\, Florida\, Matthew has recently returned to Huntsville\, Alabama with his wife\, after living in Stuttgart\, Germany for the past 3 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Stetson University in 2007 and a Master’s degree in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2013 and was inducted into Delta Mu Delta\, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. \nMatthew was an elementary school music teacher for three years in Pensacola\, Florida. He has served as Music Director and Music Chairman for the Athens Ward\, Madison Stake\, and Stuttgart Germany International Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has performed with the Pensacola Opera company\, Opera Huntsville\, the Huntsville Community Chorus Association\, the Huntsville Christmas Festival Choir\, and the Huntsville Patriotic Choir featuring the Army Materiel Command Band.

At 6 p.m.\, Josh Taylor will perform in the galleries. \nAbout Josh Taylor: \nGuitarist\, composer\, and singer Josh Taylor cut his teeth in Nashville before moving back to his hometown of Madison\, Alabama. He is an award-winning fingerstyle guitarist and took home the state champion title during the 2019 Athens Old Time Fiddler’s Convention Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and was the runner-up in 2021 with plans to reclaim his title in 2022. Josh is heavily influenced by the work of guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel\, Jerry Reed\, Chet Atkins\, and Joe Robinson and his time spent studying these artists has yielded a sound that is reminiscent of his heroes while still providing his own modern twist. Josh is a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and through his time with them has played with and for some of the best guitarists in the world including the aforementioned Tommy Emmanuel. Taylor’s sound covers a wide range of genres and he is able to go from country to jazz to pop to classical and even to rock n’ roll seamlessly (and somehow being able to do it all on one acoustic guitar!). He is also an educator and teaches privately at Colors Fine Arts Center in Huntsville Alabama.

At 6 p.m.\, enjoy a musical performance by Diana Lucas in the galleries. \nAbout Diana Lucas: \nDiana Lucas is a dramatic coloratura soprano who has sung at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.  She has also sung the Star-Spangled Banner at many sports stadiums and classical venues\, including The Wolf Trap Ball the Friday after 9/11. She also was a full Main Stage performer in Harold Group with The Second City Los Angeles (Chris Barnes) Main Stage Santa Monica. She has been cast recently in the recurring role of Superior Court Judge Grace Winslow in the Nashville series Murder on Music Row. Diana lives in Huntsville with her husband and two children and loves singing for the museum when she is not volunteering as a docent.

DESCRIPTION:Beauty\, Passion & Bliss Art Demonstration with Ann Moeller Steverson\nThursday\, June 23 | 5:30 – 7 p.m.\nMembers: Free | Non-Members: Included with $5 After 5 admission\n\nIn conjunction with the Beauty\, Passion and Bliss: 19th Century Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art exhibition\, Huntsville artist Ann Moeller Steverson will give an oil painting demonstration during $5 After 5 on June 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Viewing the demonstration is free for Museum members or included with admission for Non-Members. \nAbout Ann Moeller Steverson: \nOver 16 years of experience as an art instructor sharing her love of art with students of all ages. Ann is an oil painter known for her mood-filled figures\, portraits\, and still-lifes. Her contemporary work bridges the classical beauty with the modern painting practices of today. Born in Madison\, Alabama\, in 1980\, Ann began painting in oils at the University of Montevallo in 1999. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville\, completing a B.A. with a Fine Arts Concentration. Ann then acquired a Master of Art Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal\, Alabama. \nShe has been awarded the honor of the Bold Brush Award\, a distinction an artist may achieve only once in their lifetime. Ann’s work has recently been selected as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center\, been featured in several Oil Painters of America exhibits. It has been awarded by the National Acrylic and Oil Painters Society and Portrait Society of America. This year Ann will join the portrait Society of America faculty. She is a Co-founder of Protégé Atelier\, which brings Master Artist Workshops to Huntsville. Ann is also the inventor and founder of Venus Copper Panels.

They perform using all the members of the flute family – piccolo\, flute\, alto flute\, bass flute\, and contra-bass flute (the only one in Huntsville!). Their community group has been together for over 15 years now\, we’re an inclusive all volunteer organization\, and perform locally for public events as well as for paid private events. Our members range from college students to retirees and include students as well as many professional musicians.

Diana lives in Huntsville with her husband and two children and loves singing for the museum when she is not volunteering as a docent.

Attending the gallery walk is included with $5 After 5 admission and free for members. \nAbout Professor José Betancourt: \nProfessor of Photography at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Department of Art\, Art History and Design. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the City University of New York- Hunter College\, where he studied with Roy DeCarava\, Mark Feldstein\, Juan Sanchez\, and Robert Morris. José has been a grant panelist for the New York Department of Cultural Affairs and the Birmingham Cultural Alliance. He sometimes travels as juror for competitions and has curated art exhibits from New York City to Alabama. His latest curatorial projects bring together photography and local history to tell previously untold stories. José’s personal art projects are inspired by the documentary possibilities in photography. From the traditional documentary project to the possibilities of using objects\, stories\, and alternative techniques to help the viewer process the information. Additionally\, José and artist Susan Weil have collaborated for over 20 years on variations of alternative photographic techniques\, most importantly\, the Cyanotype\, or Blueprint. José’s work has been exhibited regionally at the Tinney Contemporary art gallery in Nashville\, the Tennessee Valley Museum in Tuscumbia\, Alabama\, the Asheville Museum of Art in North Carolina\, and The Baldwin Photographic Gallery in Murfreesboro\, Tennessee. Internationally\, José has exhibited at numerous art and photography fairs\, including Art Basel in Switzerland\, and additionally at the Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle\, in Munich\, Germany. At 6 p.m.\, Sangeetha Ekambaram and Matthew Newell will perform an exciting program from famous operas such as La Traviata\, Carmen\, Tosca\, and La Boheme\, in addition to some musical theater hits from Phantom of the Opera\, Oklahoma\, The King and I\, South Pacific\, and more. \nAbout Sangeetha Ekambaram: \nSoprano most recently performed Chrysothemis in “A Look at Elektra” (sponsored by the New York Chamber Music Festival)\, in the “Evolution of Ingenue” at the Metropolitan Opera Guild\, Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief) with Opera Huntsville\, and in the opening gala concert at the Amadeo Bassi Festival. She was one of ten singers selected for the final reveal concert in NYIOP’s Anonymous Audition Project. Other roles include Mimì (La Bohème) (Festival di Ostra)\, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte)\, Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann)\, Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor)\, 1st French Woman in the world premiere of Eleanor and the 1st Calaveras in Frida (The Society for New Music). For her performance on Pamina\, the CVNC Arts Journal wrote: “Soprano Sangeetha Ekambaram lacked nothing in vocal power or beauty of line in the role of Pamina. Her voice was beautifully supported across its range and she conveyed the emotional range superbly.” \nShe equally enjoys performing in creative productions and collaborations\, such as the role of Cinderella in Martin Warren’s The True Story of Cinderella (Opera Huntsville) and in concert with renown flamenco singer Chayito Champion in an evening of Spanish classical repertoire. In concert\, collaborators include artists such as Craig Ketter\, Jennifer McGuire\, and Anthony Gian di Tomasso. She is currently a Resident Artist with Sparrow Live\, an online streaming platform. She appears on a CD in duets by Heinrich Marschner (Centaur Records) with baritone Jeffrey Williams and pianist/conductor Jennifer McGuire\, which was released in January 2021. \nAbout Matthew Newell: \nA native of Crestview\, Florida\, Matthew has recently returned to Huntsville\, Alabama with his wife\, after living in Stuttgart\, Germany for the past 3 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Stetson University in 2007 and a Master’s degree in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2013 and was inducted into Delta Mu Delta\, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. \nMatthew was an elementary school music teacher for three years in Pensacola\, Florida. He has served as Music Director and Music Chairman for the Athens Ward\, Madison Stake\, and Stuttgart Germany International Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has performed with the Pensacola Opera company\, Opera Huntsville\, the Huntsville Community Chorus Association\, the Huntsville Christmas Festival Choir\, and the Huntsville Patriotic Choir featuring the Army Materiel Command Band.

At 6 p.m.\, enjoy a musical performance by Diana Lucas in the galleries. \nAbout Diana Lucas: \nDiana Lucas is a dramatic coloratura soprano who has sung at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.  She has also sung the Star-Spangled Banner at many sports stadiums and classical venues\, including The Wolf Trap Ball the Friday after 9/11. She also was a full Main Stage performer in Harold Group with The Second City Los Angeles (Chris Barnes) Main Stage Santa Monica. She has been cast recently in the recurring role of Superior Court Judge Grace Winslow in the Nashville series Murder on Music Row. Diana lives in Huntsville with her husband and two children and loves singing for the museum when she is not volunteering as a docent.

At 6 p.m.\, Anna Sue Courtney will perform a sculptural installation called Labor of Love. \n \nAbout Labor of Love: \nA sculptural performance installation of ALWCA’s handbound folio book\, whose individual pages escape and travel through the air like music. In the performance\, they are pinned into a framework in dialogue with one another. \nAbout Anna Sue Courtney: \nArts instigator\, coordinating interdisciplinary collaborations at her Squeaking Tribe Studio as well as for museums\, community centers\, schools\, universities and festivals. She is a founding member of the Flying Monkey Arts\, the seed community of Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment Center. Anna Sue is also a member of Alabama Women’s Caucus for Art (ALWCA)\, the Center for Puppetry Arts\, Puppeteers of America\, UNIMA and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

In addition to teaching drumming\, a craft that will help participants compete for college scholarships\, we focus on the development of self-respect\, respect for others\, self-discipline\, and pride in our community. \nMission: Huntsville Community Drumline fosters hope and potential in youth through percussion\, education and teamwork to provide a positive path for becoming contributing members of society. \nValues: We are dedicated to providing community service through instruction\, performance and outreach opportunities for youth in first through ninth grade willing to commit to the rigorous training\, discipline\, practice\, and the demanding performance schedule of the Huntsville Community Drumline.
