DESCRIPTION:Telling Stories: Compositional Drawing\nSkill Level: Intermediate to Advanced \nWednesday\, November 2\, 2022\, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \nMembers: $175 | Non-Members: $200 \nRegister for workshop here! \n\n\nDonato Giancola\, Difficult Negotiations\, 2022\, watercolor pencil and chalk on toned paper \n\nExplore narrative storytelling with an intimate one-day studio session. The workshop is for the artist who aspires to pursue further development and refinement of their skills as image makers and storytellers. Focus will be placed upon experimental explorations in compositions through the medium of drawing. \nDrawing on his thirty years of experience as a heavily awarded professional and teacher in the field of imaginative realism\, Donato will lecture upon compositional approaches\, the aesthetics of narration\, and the physical application and techniques of drawing. The workshop will include live demonstrations in drawing as well as visual lectures on the topics. The small size of the class will ensure a highly focused\, intense critique and studio work session with the artist. \nGraduating summa cum laude from Syracuse University with a BFA in Painting\, Donato apprenticed for years as the studio assistant to the preeminent figurative painter\, Vincent Desiderio. In addition to his constant commercial commissions\, Donato teaches through the SmArt School\, exhibits at conventions\, and demonstrates and lectures at various universities\, workshops\, and events. Curriculum will cover the visual components of color\, form\, line\, shape\, space\, texture and value. We’ll take Museum gallery visits to be inspired by different works of art – still life and landscapes as related to exhibitions. Through an in-depth study of art history\, curriculum-based studio art classes introduce more sophisticated principles of art\, while students create original art pieces. Instructional work is designed for each experience level. \nJoin Sara Beth and learn the secrets of color and light by creating color charts to take home and use in your studio\, creating multiple reference studies to apply the secrets and finally completing a beautiful still life painting. Demos\, a slide presentation\, and critiques included. \nArtist and educator painting for 17 years. In addition\, she has a Ph.D. in optics and hence a technical as well as artistic understanding of light and color. She has taught multiple classes around the country and exhibited in galleries throughout the southeast. She spent three years studying with Murat Kaboulov\, a Russian Impressionist\, along with several students of the great Russian artist Serge Bongart.
