SUMMARY:Voices of Our Times: A New York Evening
DESCRIPTION:The Voices of Our Times series celebrates stories and perspectives from remarkable individuals\, and what better way to experience those voices than through the uniquely American art form of the Broadway musical? \nMusical theater was born in the United States and flourished in the heart of New York City\, evolving into one of the country’s greatest cultural achievements. This special evening shines a spotlight on that legacy\, blending captivating performance with rich historical insight. \nJoin North Alabama native and former Broadway performer Jo Lynn Burks as she takes us on a musical journey through the history and highlights of Broadway. From beloved classics to behind-the-scenes anecdotes\, Ms. Burks shares the evolution of American musical theater\, spotlighting its legendary composers\, directors\, and stars. With a career that spans performances on Broadway and at esteemed venues like The Carlyle\, The Plaza\, and even Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans\, she brings a wealth of experience – and a few delightful stories – to the stage. Currently a professor of Musical Theater at Belmont University\, she offers both show-stopping vocals and insightful commentary. \nJoining her is Keith Buterbaugh\, a veteran of The Phantom of the Opera\, who uniquely played both Raoul and the Phantom during his time with the show. \nAlso sharing the stage is Broadway luminary Lee Summers\, a member of the original Broadway company of Dreamgirls. A published playwright and professor of theater at NYU\, Mr. Summers will perform and co-emcee the evening alongside Ms. Burks. \nTo complete the New York atmosphere\, enjoy a sumptuous dinner curated by Chef James Boyce\, a New York native himself – a culinary nod to the flavors of the city that never sleeps. \nSo\, kick up your heels and join us for an unforgettable cabaret-style celebration of Broadway – featuring the stories\, songs\, and spirit of the American state\, brought to life by those who’ve lived it. \nBuy tickets here: https://huntsvillemuseumofart3.ticketing.veevartapp.com/tickets/view/list/a-new-york-evening
