SUMMARY:Gallery Walk and Reception: Encounters: Courtney Egan
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Walk and Reception for Encounters: Courtney Egan\nSunday\, April 16 | 2 p.m.\nIncluded with admission and free for members\nJoin us in celebrating the opening of a new exhibition\, Encounters: Courtney Egan with a gallery walk and reception at 2 p.m. on opening day. \nNew Orleans video artist Courtney Egan creates projection-based sculptural installations that meld nature with technology\, delivering an experience that is both pleasing and disconcerting. The ethereal projections – converging on walls\, floors and sculptural elements – are inspired by the growing frequency of human exposure to nature via computers or television. Egan creates stunning yet “subtly impossible\, hybrid tableaus” which envelop the viewer in a conversation between the memory of the natural world and a new experience with a plant or flower. She explains the fundamental irony of the experience\, stating\, “We get closer and farther away from the natural world simultaneously when we experience it through a technological lens.” Organized by HMA.

SUMMARY:$5 After 5 with Josh Taylor
DESCRIPTION:$5 After 5 with Josh Taylor\nThursdays | 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.\nMembers: Free | Non-Members: $5\nEnjoy $5 admission on Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Explore the Museum’s latest exhibitions or visit favorites from the Museum collection during this after-hours event. Wine service has returned. Guests aged 21+ will be able to purchase a glass of wine from the Church Street Wine Shoppe for $7. At 6 p.m.\, guitarist Josh Taylor will perform in the galleries. \nAbout Josh Taylor: \nGuitarist\, composer\, and singer who cut his teeth in Nashville\, Tennessee before moving back to his hometown of Madison\, Alabama. He is an award-winning fingerstyle guitarist and took home the state champion title during the 2019 Athens Old Time Fiddler’s Convention Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and was the runner-up in 2021 with plans to reclaim his title in 2022. Josh is heavily influenced by the work of guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel\, Jerry Reed\, Chet Atkins\, and Joe Robinson and his time spent studying these artists has yielded a sound that is reminiscent of his heroes while still providing his own modern twist. Josh is a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and through his time with them has played with and for some of the best guitarists in the world including the aforementioned Tommy Emmanuel. Taylor’s sound covers a wide range of genres and he is able to go from country to jazz to pop to classical and even to rock n’ roll seamlessly (and somehow being able to do it all on one acoustic guitar!). He is also an educator and teaches privately at Colors Fine Arts Center in Huntsville Alabama.
