SUMMARY:2019 Master Artist Workshop with Brian Bomeisler - Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain\nFive – Day Intensive Drawing Class\nMonday – Friday\, September 23 – 27\, 2019\n9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.\nFee: $1\,600 for members or non-members \nThis intensive class is designed for individuals with little or no prior drawing training and perhaps believe that learning to draw well is only possible for those lucky people with “inborn talent”. However\, it has been proven that the global skill of drawing any perceived object\, person or place requires five basic component perceptual skills. These skills are the perception of edges\, spaces\, relationships\, lights and shadows\, and the whole or gestalt. Global or whole skills\, such as reading\, driving and drawing\, in time become automatic with the integration of the component skills. Instruction by Brian Bomeisler\, Dr. Betty Edwards’ son. Each day begins with a lecture on one of the five skills required. After lectures\, students participate in drawing exercises\, with Brian’s instruction\, through the day. The day will end with a critique of the day’s session.

SUMMARY:2019 Master Artist Workshop with Brian Bomeisler - Intensive Painting/Color
DESCRIPTION:Intensive Painting/Color based on Dr. Betty Edwards’ Color: A course in mastering the art of color mixing\nSaturday – Monday\, September 28 –30\, 2019\n9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.\nFee: $975 for members or non-members \nBetty Edwards and Brian Bomeisler have designed a practical three-day course in color as the next step and follow-up to Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This course is suitable for novices in color as well as more experienced artists who may be using color without a clear understanding or knowledge of color theory. Hands-on exercises focus on how to use color theory to achieve harmonious color\, and how to see and efficiently mix specific desired hues. Brief lectures focus on traditional color attributes such as hue\, value\, intensity and various visual perceptual and psychological aspects of color. Students will work on still life paintings utilizing the theory and techniques they learn during the workshop. For this workshop\, we work with acrylic paints because of their versatility\, but the techniques can be applied to any painting mediums\, oil paint\, watercolor\, pastel or colored pencils. A portfolio of painting materials included.

SUMMARY:OPENING DAY & GALLERY WALK - Connections: Stephen Paul Day | Sibylle Peretti
DESCRIPTION:The Huntsville Museum of Artis pleased to present the sixth installment of its exhibition series focused on contemporary artists linked in terms of subject matter and sensibility. The latest installment of this series features two artists from New Orleans whose works revolve around themes of childhood\, nature\, innocence\, and loss. Stephen Paul Day creates skillfully executed paintings and sculptures that are whimsical and charming\, reflecting aspects of his boyhood as well as folktale symbolism. Sibylle Peretti creates glass sculptures and multimedia collages which combine photography and drawing with surface techniques such as engraving\, mirroring\, and glass slumping. The world Peretti creates for the children in her pieces is mysterious\, alluring and potentially fraught with danger\, underscoring their fragility and humanity. \n  \nGallery Walk & Reception\nSunday\, October 20\, 2019 | 2-4 p.m.\nMembers: Free | Non-members: Included with General Admission\nReception hosted by the Huntsville Museum of Art Guild

SUMMARY:OPENING - Orientalism: The Allure of North Africa and the Near East Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Orientalism: The Allure of North Africa and the Near East – Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art explores how artists from both Europe and America represented the cultures and peoples of Turkey\, the Middle East\, and North Africa– both real and imagined – during the 19th century. \nThe exhibition explores the artistic legacy of Western encounters with the Orient in the 19th century through a variety of themes ranging from the West’sfascination with Ancient Egypt\, MedievalIslamic architecture and design\, and the exploration of biblical history\, to the exotic genre and harem scenes. The stories unfolded by the artists’ travels reveal the cross-cultural exchanges that continue to fascinate us two centuries later.
