Enjoy $5 admission from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, and explore the latest exhibitions or revisit your favorite pieces from our permanent collection.\n Wine: Guests aged 21+ can purchase a glass of wine selected by Church Street Wine Shoppe\, adding the perfect touch to your museum experience.\n Live Music: At 6 p.m. \n  \nFlute Frequencies is a performing ensemble made up of members of the larger Prevailing Winds Flute Ensemble\, located in Huntsville\, Alabama. Two members were talking one evening after rehearsal about some new music they had individually fallen in love with\, and soon realized their mutual admiration for the works of composer Herman Beeftink. It became clear there was more than enough of his wonderful music to fill a recital\, so they approached some flute friends about this idea and received an enthusiastic response. \nTheir first concert of Mr. Beeftink’s music was performed in March\, 2024. In 2025\, they were selected to perform for the National Flute Association Convention’s Flute Ensemble Festival\, where they were thrilled to be joined by Nashville flutist Rama Kumaran\, who has recorded many of Beeftink’s works. Their performances include instruments ranging from piccolo to bass flute\, with an occasional inclusion of contrabass flute and piano or backing track. Their flute friendship brings them great joy\, which they hope to share with their audiences.

DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Sunset Landscapes with Alan Shuptrine \nSkill Level: Don’t be intimidated\, all skill levels welcome! \nFriday\, November 7\, 2025\n10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\n$225 members/275 non-members \nREGISTER HERE \nJoin internationally renowned artist\, Alan Shuptrine for an immersive watercolor workshop focusing on the beautiful palette of colors found in Sunset Landscapes! Attendees will utilize different watercolor techniques and will work with a broad range of colors and depth\, creating multiple compositions. Class space is limited to provide individual guidance so register early! \nA painter known for his watercolor technical ability\, sensitive and thought-provoking paintings\, Shuptrine has extended his reputation from a renowned master craftsman and water gilder to a nationally acclaimed watercolorist. His paintings are collected nationally\, in both corporate and private collections. Born the son of recognized painter\, Hubert Shuptrine (1936-2006)\, Alan has continued the legacy of realism that both Andrew Wyeth and his father Hubert established. \nA resident of Lookout Mountain\, Tennessee\, Shuptrine’s pursuit of the arts includes schooling at The Baylor School (Chattanooga\, TN); The University of the South (Sewanee\, TN); and The University of Tennessee (Knoxville\, TN). His style is Realism with highly detailed and dramatic lighting in his landscapes and figurative paintings surrounded in usual fashion of his masterful framing\, sometimes in carved and intricate gold leaf designs. Shuptrine’s medium is primarily watercolor which he applies and controls in various techniques\, from wet-in-wet to drybrush. He prefers to handcraft\, carve\, and gold leaf his own frames for his paintings. \nIn 2019-2020\, Shuptrine kicked off a literary collaboration with National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year\, and Appalachian Trail expert\, best-selling author Jennifer Pharr Davis. Davis and Shuptrine continue to provide national speaking engagements. This fine art\, coffee-table book is self-published and titled I Come From A Place. The book features the collection of paintings by Shuptrine and accompanying verbiage by Pharr Davis. Ages 2-3\nRegistration is required.\n\nThe program introduces toddlers between the ages of 2 and 3 to art and to the Museum through artful short stories\, gallery play activities\, and an art activity. The program helps with color recognition\, fine motor skills\, hand-eye coordination and more!\n\nArtsy Tots classes are on a Friday once a month from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. and 11:00-11:45 a.m. The program will be held in the Stender Family Interactive Education Galleries.\n\n$8 members/$10 non-members per registration of one child and parent/$4 additional child.\nFees are non-refundable. Registration is transferable to another session.\n\nThe class size is limited to 10 children\, and registration is required. Each class will have a unique theme. Dress for a mess!\n\nQuestions? By day an account manager in the tech world\, Gary Smith studied clarinet with Dr. Bill Bigham and has played clarinet and saxophone in a number of ensembles. George Smith has studied bassoon with Dr. John Jinright while at Troy University\, and is working with the Alabama Department of Revenue while also completing a Masters of Accountancy! Locally\, he’s played with the Madison City Community Orchestra and the Twickenham Winds.
