DESCRIPTION:Opening Day\nThe Artist Abroad\nSunday\, May 7 | 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.\nEnjoy the museum’s newest exhibition\, The Artist Abroad. \nIn the decades following the U.S. Civil War\, many American artists eagerly flocked to Europe’s great art centers\, seeking inspiration\, patronage\, and formal artistic training. Traversing the continent and frequently settling in cities throughout Europe and the Mediterranean region\, these artists honed their formal techniques\, drawing upon the richness of Europe’s architecture\, ancient ruins\, and regional distinctions. \nThe Artist Abroad explores the artworks of American artists who traveled throughout France and Italy and\, later\, locations further south\, including Spain\, Greece\, North Africa\, and the region referred to as the Holy Lands – a route originally established by 17th and 18th-century travelers as part of The Grand Tour. This exhibition features paintings\, prints\, and drawings from the Huntsville Museum of Art’s permanent collection\, including artworks from the Sellars Collection of female artists\, as well as historic works by Old Master painters and sculptures that many American artists sought out while traveling. The Artist Abroad also includes a selection of contemporary photographs by members of the Huntsville Photographic Society that represent notions of modern-day tourism. \nThis exhibition is organized by the Huntsville Museum of Art.

The private tour is Wednesday\, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sessions fill up quickly\, so it is strongly recommended that attendees pre-register for each session. Accessible Art Works sessions are offered on a monthly basis. The sessions for the Blind/Low Vision will be verbally descriptive and contain tactile components. The Deaf/Hard of Hearing session will have an ASL Qualified Interpreter. DESCRIPTION:Accessible Art Works Docent-Led Tour\nBlind/Visually Impaired Session\nWednesday\, May 10 | 2 – 3:30 p.m.\nExhibition Tour of Mystery and Benevolence: Masonic and Odd Fellows Folk Art from the American Folk Art Museum\nOur docents are leading a tour for the Blind and Visually Impaired through our Accessible Art Works program. The private tour is Wednesday\, May 10 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sessions fill up quickly\, so it is strongly recommended that attendees pre-register for each session. Sign up online at the button below or by contacting Audrey Creel\, the Docent/Tour Programs Coordinator at acreel@hsvmuseum.org or 256-535-4350 ext. 223. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE \n\nThe Accessible Art Works program provides a private\, docent-led tour of specific art pieces from a current exhibition\, followed by an art-making session led by a trained instructor. Accessible Art Works sessions are offered on a monthly basis. The sessions for the Blind/Low Vision will be verbally descriptive and contain tactile components. The Deaf/Hard of Hearing session will have an ASL Qualified Interpreter. We are pleased to offer the Accessible Art Workshop free of charge to participants and a companion\, thanks to a generous grant from the Lowe Foundation and a partnership with the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). \nHMA is committed to advancing a diverse and inclusive space and community by creating and implementing accessibility initiatives. For the past few years\, he has been the guitar player in the Huntsville-based rock group Black Market Salesmen. He has worked with Grammy-nominated musician/producer Joey Huffman. Shane opened for artists such as Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle and was featured in international magazines Relix and Classic Rock. In 2020\, Shane got a few friends together to work on solo material and recorded his self-titled album. Since then\, they have been performing as the Shane Davis Group. Shane’s music has been compared to Neil Young\, Ryan Adams\, Townes Van Sandt and The Grateful Dead.

You will learn how to observe the planes of the head\, set up attractive and effective lighting\, create excellent reference images\, and mix paint for more natural-looking colors. Learning these techniques will help your subject matter glow\, feel alive and significantly improve your skin tones. \nAnn Moeller Steverson has over 16 years of experience as an art instructor sharing her love of art with students of all ages. Born in Madison\, Alabama\, in 1980\, Ann began painting in oils at the University of Montevallo in 1999. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville\, completing a B.A. with a Fine Arts Concentration. Ann then acquired a Master of Art Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal\, Alabama. \nAnn has been awarded the honor of the Bold Brush Award\, a distinction an artist may achieve only once in their lifetime. She has recently been selected as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center. \nAnn is the inventor and founder of Venus Copper Panels\, an innovative new fine art painting surface; now known as Artefex Copper Panels. Moeller Steverson is an adjunct instructor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville\, Athens State University\, and Calhoun Community College.
