SUMMARY:Voices of Our Times: Nina Campbell Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date! \nNina Campbell\nInterior Designer\, Fabric and Wallpaper Designer and Maker of Furniture and Home Accessories\nThursday\, April 11\, 2019\n11:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. \nMember Tickets: $100 | Non-member Tickets: $130\nTickets available to members on February 21 | Tickets available to non-members on March 14 \n \nAbbreviated Biography: \nNina Campbell is one of the world’s most respected and influential interior designers. Her design expertise is unparalleled and her client list reads like an international ’who’s who’. Renowned for her contagious wit and brilliant sense of personal style\, her interiors appeal to both young and old and work perfectly in both contemporary and traditional settings. \nNina started her design career at the age of 19 when she worked as an assistant to John Fowler at the prestigious Sybil Colefax & John Fowler Company. With her unmistakably rich and elegant color palette\, Nina’s work caught the eye of club owner Mark Birley\, who asked her to redecorate the famous Annabel’s private members’ club. This relationship was so successful that they combined forces once again in 1970 when they opened Campbell & Birley\, a shop in London specializing in ‘unashamed luxury’. It was here that Nina launched her signature ‘hearts’ design and this timeless motif is still available on a range of fine bone china. \nIn 1972\, Nina set up her own business\, Nina Campbell Ltd\, where one of her first commissions was to decorate Cullen House in Banffshire\, Scotland. There followed the opening of Nina’s shop and design studio on Walton Street in London’s Knightsbridge in 1984 where she continued her fabric printing as well as expanding her business into the wider decorative arena. In 1990\, Nina launched the first of what was to become her annual fabric\, wallpaper and trimming collections\, internationally distributed by Osborne & Little. \nThe interior design side of the business continued to flourish with notable projects including the Savoy Hotel lobby (with David Linley)\, the Hotel Parc Victor Hugo in Paris\, the Groucho Club in London\, the Campbell Apartment Bar at Grand Central Station\, New York\, the New Sheridan Hotel\, Telluride Colorado\, and the Ellenborough Park Hotel\, Cheltenham\, England. Nina also designed Outlaw’s Restaurant at the Capitol Hotel and parts of the Draycott Hotel\, both situated in central London. \nIn addition\, Nina has written six books on design -‘Elsie de Wolfe: A Decorative Life’ (1992)\, ‘The Art of Decoration’ (1996)\, ‘Nina Campbell’s Decorating Secrets’ (2000)\, ‘Nina Campbell’s Decorating Notebook’ (2004)\, ‘Elements of Design’ (2007) and Nina Campbell Interiors (October 2013). She is currently working on a new book due to be published in September 2017. \nHighlights from her long list of awards include an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Middlesex 2001\, the Royal Oak Timeless Design Award 2003 and Residential Designer of the Year 2010 from IDFX Magazine. Nina’s talent and design credentials are also recognized in America with the US Fashion Award for ‘the woman who has most influenced style internationally’\, the Brit Week Design Icon Award for her significant contributions to British design and the Legends Award celebrating distinguished individuals and corporations in the world of art and design from the Pratt Institute.

SUMMARY:Preview Reception for "Alphonse Mucha: Master of Art Nouveau"
DESCRIPTION:Alphonse Mucha: Master of Art Nouveau\nHuth\, Boeing\, Salmon\, & Haws Galleries\nOn Display March 24 – June 23\, 2019 \nPreview Reception \nThursday\, March 21\, 2019 \nReception: 5:30-7:30 p.m.\nHosted by the Huntsville Museum of Art Development Department \nTickets available on March 5th \nJoin us for the Preview Reception for the gorgeous Art Nouveau designs of Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) which are featured in this acclaimed exhibition drawn from one of the finest private collections of the artist’s work in the United States. Alphonse Mucha: Master of Art Nouveau features 75 works by the celebrated Czech master\, whose expressive and seductive imagery helped shape the aesthetics of French Art Nouveau at the turn of the 20th century. Taking inspiration from the unruly aspects of the natural world\, Art Nouveau influenced art and architecture\, especially in graphic work and illustration\, with its sinuous lines and whiplash curves. Through rare original lithographs\, proofs and drawings\, as well as books\, illustrations\, portfolios and ephemera\, the exhibition examines the broad range of Mucha’s work\, which emphasizes creating a new art fit for the new century. Organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions\, Los Angeles\, CA. \n
