SUMMARY:OPENING DAY: A Graphic Journey: Prints by Pablo Picasso from the Dr. Timothy Collins Collection
DESCRIPTION:Opening Day\nA Graphic Journey: Prints by Pablo Picasso from the Dr. Timothy Collins Collection\nSaturday\, July 15 | 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.\nView the museum’s newest exhibition\, A Graphic Journey: Prints by Pablo Picasso from the Timothy Collins Collection. This exhibition presents an insightful gathering of approximately 60 prints by one of the great masters of the 20th Century\, Pablo Picasso. It provides a unique window into a significant era in art history and takes a serious look at the artist’s development and creative process. Best known for his paintings and sculptures\, Picasso was also a major innovator in the medium of printmaking. He made prints throughout his career — his first in 1899\, when he was still a teenager\, and his last in 1972\, when he was 90 years old. \nThe exhibition illustrates the three major phases of Picasso’s printmaking career\, as well as his signature artistic themes. A special feature of this collection is the number of proofs it contains. These proofs illustrate the unique working relationship Picasso maintained with his printers and their workshops\, and allow for close examination of the working process behind it. Organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions\, Los Angeles\, CA.

SUMMARY:OPENING DAY: The Rise of Modernism: European Prints from the Permanent Collection
DESCRIPTION:Opening Day\nThe Rise of Modernism: European Prints from the Permanent Collection\nSunday\, July 16 | 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.\nView the Museum’s newest exhibition\, The Rise of Modernism: European Prints from the Permanent Collection. \nAfter the invention of photography\, printmaking as a medium was no longer utilitarian–required as a tool of preproduction–it could now be an artistic means for creativity\, expression\, and experimentation. \nThe Rise of Modernism highlights a selection of prints from the Museum’s permanent collection of European art and includes over 35 woodcuts\, etchings\, lithographs\, and aquatints dating between 1891 and 1977. Complementing the concurrent exhibition\, A Graphic Journey of prints by Pablo Picasso\, this exhibition presents the artworks of modern European painters Francisco Goya\, Joan Miró\, Henri Matisse\, Salvador Dalí\, and other noteworthy contemporaries to Picasso who also experimented with printmaking. The Rise of Modernism explores the significant contributions these noteworthy European painters made towards modern art and the medium of printmaking. \nThis exhibition is organized by the Huntsville Museum of Art.
