SUMMARY:Master Artist Workshop with Donato Giancola
DESCRIPTION:Telling Stories: Compositional Drawing\nSkill Level: Intermediate to Advanced \nWednesday\, November 2\, 2022\, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \nMembers: $175 | Non-Members: $200 \nRegister for workshop here! \n\n\nDonato Giancola\, Difficult Negotiations\, 2022\, watercolor pencil and chalk on toned paper \n\nExplore narrative storytelling with an intimate one-day studio session. The workshop is for the artist who aspires to pursue further development and refinement of their skills as image makers and storytellers. Focus will be placed upon experimental explorations in compositions through the medium of drawing. \nDrawing on his thirty years of experience as a heavily awarded professional and teacher in the field of imaginative realism\, Donato will lecture upon compositional approaches\, the aesthetics of narration\, and the physical application and techniques of drawing. The workshop will include live demonstrations in drawing as well as visual lectures on the topics. The small size of the class will ensure a highly focused\, intense critique and studio work session with the artist. \nGraduating summa cum laude from Syracuse University with a BFA in Painting\, Donato apprenticed for years as the studio assistant to the preeminent figurative painter\, Vincent Desiderio. In addition to his constant commercial commissions\, Donato teaches through the SmArt School\, exhibits at conventions\, and demonstrates and lectures at various universities\, workshops\, and events. For more information on the artist\, visit donatoarts.com. \nThe Huntsville Museum of Art has organized an exhibition entitled Donato Giancola: Adventures in Imagination on display from October 30\, 2022– January 22\, 2023.

SUMMARY:$5 After 5 with Josh Taylor
DESCRIPTION:$5 After 5 with Josh Taylor\nThursdays | 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.\nMembers: Free | Non-Members: $5\nEnjoy $5 admission on Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Explore the Museum’s latest exhibitions or visit favorites from the Museum collection during this after-hours event. Wine service has returned. Guests aged 21+ will be able to purchase a glass of wine from the Church Street Wine Shoppe for $7. At 6 p.m.\, Josh Taylor will perform in the galleries. \nAbout Josh Taylor: \nGuitarist\, composer\, and singer Josh Taylor cut his teeth in Nashville before moving back to his hometown of Madison\, Alabama. He is an award-winning fingerstyle guitarist and took home the state champion title during the 2019 Athens Old Time Fiddler’s Convention Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and was the runner-up in 2021 with plans to reclaim his title in 2022. Josh is heavily influenced by the work of guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel\, Jerry Reed\, Chet Atkins\, and Joe Robinson and his time spent studying these artists has yielded a sound that is reminiscent of his heroes while still providing his own modern twist. Josh is a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and through his time with them has played with and for some of the best guitarists in the world including the aforementioned Tommy Emmanuel. Taylor’s sound covers a wide range of genres and he is able to go from country to jazz to pop to classical and even to rock n’ roll seamlessly (and somehow being able to do it all on one acoustic guitar!). He is also an educator and teaches privately at Colors Fine Arts Center in Huntsville Alabama.
