SUMMARY:VOICES of OUR TIMES with Billy Reid\, Fashion Designer: A Modern Southern Studio
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Billy Reid\nAward Winning Fashion Designer\nThursday\, June 20\, 2024\n5:30PM • Cocktails | 6:30 PM • Lecture and Discussion | 7:30 PM • Dinner\nLoretta Spencer Hall\n \nTickets are available for purchase for Members on May 7th\, 2024\, and for Non-Members\, May 28th. \n\n\n*Note: All ticket sales are final. No refunds or exchanges. Members are limited to two tickets. Due to very limited parking downtown\, we request that all lunch guests make every effort to carpool or rideshare. Valet parking will be available\, but they have limited spaces open.\n\nBilly Reid – June 20\, 2024 \n\nBilly Reid grew up in Amite\, a small town in southern Louisiana. His mom owned a women’s boutique that was located in his grandmother’s old house\, and that had a big impact on the way hospitality is portrayed in his shops today. Reid went to the Art Institute of Dallas and worked his way through school at Saks Fifth Avenue. He later moved to Los Angeles\, New York\, and Boston during a six-year career with Reebok where he helped them pioneer their Greg Norman Golf Collections. He launched his own collection in 1998 under the label William Reid\, which had critical success and CFDA award recognition. Things were really taking off with that collection until he held a New York Fashion Week runway show on September 10th\, 2001\, a day before the 9/11 attacks. Everything eventually unraveled\, ultimately closing that business. In the aftermath\, Reid and his family moved to his wife’s hometown of Florence\, Alabama\, to reset life. After years of struggling\, he relaunched his brand in 2004 under the label Billy Reid. He had a vision that an American Fashion House can be based in the Deep South\, outside of the usual New York\, Paris\, and Milan fashion centers. Nearly 20 years later\, he has seen that vision through\, and he continues to build and create from Florence\, AL.

SUMMARY:$5 after 5 - Josh Taylor
DESCRIPTION:June 27 \nWine 5-8 PM               \n6-7 PM:   Josh Taylor \nMembers: Free | Non-Members: $5 \nJosh Taylor is a guitarist\, composer\, and singer who cut his teeth in Nashville\, Tennessee before moving back to his hometown of Madison\, Alabama. He is an award-winning fingerstyle guitarist and took home the state champion title during the 2019 Athens Old Time Fiddlers Convention Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and was the runner-up in 2021 with plans to reclaim his title. Josh is heavily influenced by the work of guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel\, Jerry Reed\, Chet Atkins\, and Joe Robinson\, and his time spent studying these artists has yielded a sound reminiscent of his heroes while still providing his own modern twist. Josh is a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and through his time with them has played with and for some of the best guitarists in the world\, including the aforementioned Tommy Emmanuel. Taylor’s sound covers a wide range of genres\, and he can go from country to jazz to pop to classical and even rock ‘n’ roll seamlessly (and somehow being able to do it all on one acoustic guitar!). He is also an educator and teaches privately at Colors Fine Arts Center in Huntsville\, Alabama. \nEnjoy $5 admission on Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Huntsville Museum of Art.
