Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) and Voices of Our Times series sponsors, PNC, Davidson Technologies, Colonial Printing and Packaging, and Donny’s Diamond Gallery are thrilled to announce the upcoming lineup for the sixth season of the Voices of Our Times series.
Voices of Our Times is an annual series that brings people of note in the arts, academia, design, publishing and politics to the Huntsville Museum of Art for candid, in-depth discussions and presentations. This series includes three events that will encompass the topics of politics, security, and lifestyle and design.
Museum Executive Director Christopher J. Madkour established the Voices series a few months after his arrival in 2011 and it has since become a signature program at HMA. “Through my years living in Vermont, New York and Cairo, I have had the good fortune of creating friendships with a number of remarkable people whom have accepted my invitation to be part of the Voices of Our Times series,” said Madkour.
The first installment of the 2017-2018 Voices series will feature John Dean, former Counsel to the President of the United States during the Nixon presidency, author and political analyst. John recounted his days at the Nixon White House and Watergate in three books. His most recent bestseller, The Nixon Defense: What He Knew and When He Knew It (2014) is currently being developed by Entertainment One and ABC Television into an eight or ten-hour miniseries entitled “Watergate.” Currently, Dean is working on his twelfth book about Donald Trump’s presidency, while providing commentary and analysis on the Trump presidency as a CNN News contributor.
John Dean’s presentation, Then and Now, will be held at the Museum on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. and will include a talk, book signing and reception. Museum member tickets went on sale September 15th and Non-member tickets will go on sale October 6th.
The second speaker in this series will be General Michael P.C. Carns. General Carns graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1959; the Harvard Business School, with Distinction, in 1967; and the Royal College of Defense Studies, London, in 1977. His career was as a fighter pilot, serving four tours in Europe and four in the Pacific. He flew 200 combat missions in the F-4 Phantom II fighter and was awarded the Silver Star. General Carns retired as Vice Chief of Staff, USAF, in 1994. General Carns has authored a number of articles and participated in numerous studies on current issues, including the critical role of a credible US nuclear deterrent, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Defense acquisition process.
General Carn’s presentation, The Terrorists of Today: Cyber Warfare, will be held at the Museum on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and will include a talk and reception. Museum member tickets will go on sale December 15th and Non-member tickets will go on sale January 2nd.
The final installment will be from noted style icon and lifestyle maven, Carolyne Roehm. Carolyne has been part of the American design culture for over four decades. With a career spanning the fashion, gardening, entertaining, publishing and decorative arts worlds, Carolyne’s energy knows no bounds. Carolyne worked alongside the couture great, Oscar de la Renta, for 10 years before launching her own fashion house in 1985. Now the author of twelve books, Roehm’s mission is to teach others how to capture and create beauty in their lives. According to Oprah Winfrey, “She’s a diva, she’s the master, she’s my mentor.”
Carolyne Roehm’s presentation, An Afternoon with a Style Icon and Lifestyle Maven, will be held at the Museum on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:15 a.m. and will include a welcome cocktail, lunch, talk and book signing. Museum member tickets will go on sale February 16th and Non-member tickets will go on sale March 9th.
