Huntsville, Ala – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) and Redstone Federal Credit Union, lead rink sponsor, are excited to announce a recent decision to keep Skating in the Park OPEN through Monday, January 19. This year marks the third annual Skating in the Park, HMA’s outdoor ice skating rink in Downtown Huntsville. The rink is open seven days a week.

“The Huntsville Museum of Art has had so much interest in the ice rink this year with more than 10,000 skaters to date,” Dabsey Maxwell, president of the Museum Foundation Board, said. “With so few family activities offered in January and numerous public requests to keep the rink open longer, we have decided to stay open through the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.”

The rink is currently offering extended holiday hours as follows:
NEW YEAR’S EVE – 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. NEW YEAR’S DAY – noon to 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2: 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Jan. 3: 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday, Jan. 4: noon to 8 p.m.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the City of Huntsville for its support and assistance in bringing residents and visitors to Downtown Huntsville during a time of year when it is not normally so bustling with people,” Christopher J. Madkour, HMA Executive director, said.

Beginning Monday, January 5, rink hours will be as follows:
Monday through Thursday: 4 to 10 p.m. Friday: 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday: 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday: noon to 8 p.m.
