Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art invites everyone to experience Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass exhibition before it closes on Sunday, January 12th, 2025. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Clearly Indigenous showcases stunning glass artworks that reflect the richness of Native American and Indigenous Pacific Rim cultures,” said Christopher J. Madkour, HMA’s Executive Director. “This exhibit is a rare opportunity to witness the remarkable fusion of tradition and contemporary artistry, and we urge everyone to experience it before it departs. The Huntsville Museum of Art invites the public to explore these exceptional works and celebrate the beauty and depth of Native glass art.”

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass is a pioneering exhibition that features over 100 glass art objects created by twenty-nine Native American artists, four Pacific Rim artists from New Zealand and Australia, and renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The exhibition explores how these artists meld their cultural heritage with the expressive possibilities of glass, producing striking works that reinterpret traditional Native symbols or confront contemporary issues affecting tribal communities.

The exhibition also tells the story of how glass art was introduced to Native American artists, primarily through the efforts of Lloyd Kiva New (Cherokee), co-founder of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), and Dale Chihuly, whose influence on Native glass art has been profound. Clearly Indigenous offers a glimpse into the intellectual depth of Native traditions, seen through the lens of glass as an artistic medium.
