The Huntsville Museum of Artis pleased to present the sixth installment of its exhibition series focused on contemporary artists linked in terms of subject matter and sensibility. The latest installment of this series features two artists from New Orleans whose works revolve around themes of childhood, nature, innocence, and loss. Stephen Paul Day creates skillfully executed paintings and sculptures that are whimsical and charming, reflecting aspects of his boyhood as well as folktale symbolism. Sibylle Peretti creates glass sculptures and multimedia collages which combine photography and drawing with surface techniques such as engraving, mirroring, and glass slumping. The world Peretti creates for the children in her pieces is mysterious, alluring and potentially fraught with danger, underscoring their fragility and humanity.
