Huntsville, Ala – On Saturday, April 16, the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Museum Academy will offer Girl Scouts the opportunity to earn art badges by participating in hands-on artwork activities. These activities include learning about the visual arts while earning a Badge or Patch – Daisy: Art Museum Visit Fun Patch; Brownie: Legacy – Artist – Painting Badge; Junior: Legacy – Artist – Drawing Badge; and Cadette: Art Museum Visit Fun Patch. The sessions are as follows:
Session I: Daisy, Brownie, & Junior Girl Scouts • 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Session II: Brownie, Junior, & Cadette Girl Scouts • 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Fees: $16 per Girl Scout (includes Badge or Patch)/ $16 per Girl Scout Troop Leader/Assistant (adult)
Due to program capacity, adults will be limited to Volunteer Essentials ratios.
Each of the two-hour sessions will include a docent-led tour and a fashion-themed mixed media art activity program. Girl Scouts will work on simple fashion-design projects, while learning the basics of drawing the fashion figure. The project will include utilizing drawing and paint media, fabric, lace, and beads. Girl Scouts will also learn about the elements of art, including color, line, shape, and texture, while they develop their own artistic vision. Media will include watercolor, marker, and other materials for embellishment. Materials will be provided. In addition to the activities, there will be a tour of the following Museum exhibitions: Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art, YAM 2016: Exhibition for Youth Art Month, and Down Home: Contemporary Southern Masters.
