Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) has announced the addition of Steven A. Johnson as the newest member of the Huntsville Museum of Art Board of Directors. This appointment filled a vacancy left by former HMA Board of Directors member, Walter (Tod) Dodgen, who served a six year term.  Mr. Johnson was appointed by the Huntsville City Council and will begin his post on November 15, 2017 where he will be introduced at the HMA monthly board meeting.

The Huntsville Museum of Art Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic direction and financial oversight of the Museum.

“Tod Dodgen served the Museum well for 6 years and we thank him for his leadership,” stated David Nast, Chairman of the Huntsville Museum of Art Board of Directors.  “We are thrilled to have Steve Johnson join the Museum Board of Directors.  Steve and his family have a long history of service to our community and we are pleased he has chosen the Museum to continue his work.”

Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Huntsville High School, and holds a B.A. from Indiana University.  His involvement in the community includes serving on the boards of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Huntsville Hospital Development Council, which he chaired, and Huntsville International League. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Huntsville Class 12.

“We are all very grateful for the time and energy that Tod invested into the Museum these last six years and know he will be actively involved in other areas of the Museum moving forward,” said Christopher J. Madkour, Huntsville Museum of Art Executive Director. “We are now both excited and privileged to have Mr. Johnson join us as a member of the Board of Directors.  We know that his talent and knowledge will serve us well as we continue to work to move Huntsville and our Museum forward.”

Mr. Johnson has been a volunteer or sponsor for many organizations in Madison County including the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama, Downtown Huntsville, Inc, Downtown 47, EarlyWorks, Hudson Alpha Institute, Huntsville City Schools, Huntsville Police Department, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, United Way, and YMCA. Mr. Johnson, along with his wife Aimée and their three children, are members of First United Methodist Church where he has served on the finance committee and as a youth volunteer.

He and his wife, along with his company, have been actively involved with Huntsville Museum of Art activities and fundraising. They have been advocates, benefactors and sponsors of events including the Museum’s Gala, which Aimée chaired in 2012. Additionally, the Johnsons were founding sponsors of the Museum’s Skating in The Park event.

“I am honored to have been appointed to this position and look forward to continuing my support of the Huntsville Museum of Art as a member of the Board of Directors,” said Steven Johnson.  “The Museum plays an important role in the community and I am excited to join the other board members in their effort to continue to grow the Museum and expand its positive impact on Huntsville.”

A native of Huntsville, Mr. Johnson has owned and operated McDonald’s restaurants for 22 years with his father, Jack. They currently own 14 restaurants and employ 800 people in Madison County.  He served as the President of the Northern Alabama Owners Association from 2010-2016. He also served on the Atlanta Region McDonald’s Leadership Council from 2008-present. In 2016, he was elected to the McDonald’s National Leadership Council, a twenty member board that represents the 14,000 restaurants in the McDonald’s US System, and recently became the Communications Chairman of that organization for the United States.
