Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) Guild is proud to host a premier event with a southern flair titled “Foothills to Fine Art: Bluegrass, Boots & Appalachian Roots” at the Huntsville Museum of Art on Thursday, May 10th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The event will be celebrating the opening of Alan Shuptrine: The Serpentine Chain.
During the party, guests will experience the Appalachian Trail through a multi-sensory journey filled with fine art, live music provided by the Wilson Banjo Co., a whiskey and moonshine tasting, silent and live auctions and regional cuisine from Georgia to Maine.
“‘Foothills to Fine Art’ is more than a fundraising event,” commented HMA Guild President, Julie Andrzejewski. “It is an opportunity to experience the wonders and riches of the Appalachian Trail through a multi-sensory journey fulfilled by art, dining and moonshine tasting! We encourage guests to embrace the Appalachian spirit and wear their fanciest and most creative boots!”
Alan Shuptrine: The Serpentine Chain, celebrates the connections between the people of the mountain South from Georgia to Maine through excellence in watercolor and craftsmanship. Shuptrine, nationally recognized for his paintings, has created 60 beautiful watercolors celebrating the connections of our Appalachian mountains and their historical and cultural counterparts in the British Isles. Also renowned for his 30 year career of handcrafting and carving beautiful frames, Shuptrine embeds precious Serpentine stones, and uses gold leaf accents on this collection of frames.
Shuptrine’s technical excellence is exhibited in each painting and highlights the traditions of quilting, whiskey making and farming traditions, along with stunning views across the mountain ranges. Serving as a monument to the mountain people, this art collection helps preserve their heritage for future generations.
“Without knowledge or appreciation for your past, and with no sense of place, how can you look to the future,” questioned Shuptrine.
Tickets for “Foothills to Fine Art: Bluegrass, Boots & Appalachian Roots” are on sale now and can be purchased at hsvmuseum.org under the Events tab. Alan Shuptrine: The Serpentine Chain will be on view at the Museum for general admission from May 13 to August 5, 2018.
