Skating in the Park to hold New Years Eve celebration

The Huntsville Museum of Art and presenting sponsor, Redstone Federal Credit Union, will be ringing in the New Year with Skating in the Park Dec. 31. The event will begin at 8 p.m. with free sparkling cider. There will be a Lil’ Ball Drop for younger skaters starting at 8:30 p.m., and the Glow Up event will take place from 9 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.

SEA Wire and Cable will be sponsoring the Lil’ Ball Drop for children and individuals that would like to celebrate the New Year earlier in the evening. The event will feature entertainment from DJ Boskii and a countdown event.

Andrea Petroff is the Director of Development at the Huntsville Museum of Art and helps plan Skating in the Park each year. She said the Lil’ Ball Drop allows children to participate in the New Year’s Celebrations.

“We have our big New Year’s event, which is a party in the park for New Year’s Eve, and that is always a really fun night. This year we will have our Lil’ Ball Drop that’s for the kids to come out and have fun at the ball drop but they are also home and in bed at a decent hour,” Petroff said.

There will also be an igloo themed photo booth present by Barge Designs to help make lasting memories.

“We wanted people to have a memento to take home with them that they can keep forever just to remember what a fun time they had at the event,” Petroff said.

The Glow Up event will begin at 9:30 p.m. with special entertainment by DJ Boskii and LED Orange. Guests are encouraged to wear glow in the dark attire as the lights are turned off for the event.

“LED Orange and DJ Boskii always do such a great job, we turn all the lights off on the rink, and it just makes for a really fun night. Everyone is encouraged to wear glow in the dark attire and come out and enjoy themselves,” Petroff said.

Ages 10 and up can skate for $15, ages 9 and under can skate for $10 with a $5 discount when guests bring their own skates. Skating in the Park is one of the Museum’s largest fundraisers each year and helps benefit the programs and operations at the museum.

“The rink would not be possible without the generosity of so many people in our community. We are really grateful to the mayor and all the city employees that work every year to help bring this together. We could not do it without them and all of our volunteers and our Foundation Board. We are also grateful to our lead sponsor, Redstone Federal Credit Union. This event is our second-largest fundraising effort every year, and all the funds that we raise go to support the programs and operations of the museum,” Petroff said.
