Is the ice real?

Yes. We use a mat system for the rink floor that is charged with liquid coolant for the ice making process. Once the mats are in place, a skim coat of water is sprayed onto the mats. The ice is then painted white before layering the ice with more water. The floor is connected to a chiller that circulates the fluid to keep the ice frozen.
