The Huntsville Museum of Art’s 30th Anniversary GALA is set for June 8th through 12th this summer. Considered one of Huntsville’s premiere events, the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Annual GALA is a tangible force aiding the Museum in its effort to bring people and art together. The 2021 Gala Art Exhibition will be on display leading up to the event. This year’s featured artist is Millie Gosch.
Millie Gosch is a highly accomplished and collectible artist. Her original oil paintings hang in the corporate offices of Synovus Bank, Bank of America, St. Francis Hospital and more. Her work is also in many private collections.
Gosch is a prestigious Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society. As a plein air painter at heart, she often leaves the four walls of her studio to work in a natural setting. She prefers painting outdoors, but when that is not possible, a still-life set up in her studio is close enough. Gosch owns the City Muse Gallery in College Park, GA, which doubles as her studio and gallery.
While some artists work from memory or a reference photograph, plein air artists work from direct observation in nature. For Gosch, this method is both her passion and calling. The studies she paints outdoors are then used as references to paint a larger format in the studio. Her goal is to invite viewers into her painting to have their own experiences.
Her work is known for its vibrant use of color and texture. The beauty and quality of Gosch’s work reflects her lifelong appreciation of nature and the outdoors. Growing up in a small Georgia town, she developed a deep love for nature, particularly in the South. Her favorite subjects are low country and pastoral scenes.
Throughout her life-long artistic journey, Gosch has drawn inspiration from not only her surroundings but also from the artists whose work she admires. Granville Redmond, Edgar Payne, George Ennis and Winslow Homer are some of her favorite American painters. Contemporary favorites include Roger Dale Brown, Ray Roberts, Kendall Ward and Anne Blair Brown.
Beginning April 10, 2021, Gosch’s work will be on display as part of the 2021 Gala Art Exhibition in the Haws Gallery. The rest of the 2021 Gala Art Exhibition opens May 8, 2021 in the Huth, Salmon and Boeing Galleries. The entire exhibition presents nearly 150 artworks in a range of media and styles. These pieces will then be auctioned to the highest bidder during the annual GALA events. Museum admission can be purchased at the front desk in the lobby of the Museum or online here. Tickets to the 30th Anniversary GALA will be available soon. The Huntsville Museum of Art asks that visitors wear a face mask at all times while inside.
