Huntsville Museum of Art opens
Youth Art Month exhibition

 

Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) celebrates Youth Art Month (YAM) with the 37th annual YAM exhibition showcasing artwork by young artists from North Alabama. The exhibition features nearly 200 works of art from kindergarten through grade 12 students from various area schools. In addition to the YAM 2024: Exhibition for Youth Art Month on view from February 25 to March 31, 2024, the museum will display the Congressional Art Competition and VAA: Visual Arts Achievement Program District V Blue Ribbon Finalists exhibitions on Sunday, February 25.

Please join the Huntsville Museum of Art, and special guests Mayor Tommy Battle, Congressman Dale Strong, and Kaci Norman, Arts in Education Program Manager with the Alabama State Council on the Arts as we celebrate the talents of North Alabama’s young artists whose works are on display. Sunday, February 25, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. admission fees will be waived for all visitors on the day of the exhibition’s opening. Award presentations for VAA Blue Ribbon Finalists and the Congressional Art Competition will be at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall. In addition, artist demonstrations will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., allowing visitors to learn about different art techniques as artists work in their selected mediums in the galleries.

“We are thrilled to showcase the exuberant works of art by the talented young artists of North Alabama,” said HMA Education Director Laura Smith. “This exhibition not only highlights the exceptional creativity of our youth but also emphasizes the importance of art education for children.”

Youth Art Month is a national observance celebrated in March to promote the significance of art education for children and encourage public support for quality school art programs. The YAM 2024 exhibition is endorsed by various art organizations including The National Art Education Association, Alabama Art Education Association, Alabama Arts Alliance, Alabama State Department of Education, and the Huntsville-Madison County Art Education Association.
